Gallinari met with two specialists on Thursday and received the shot. The Italian forward will get more opinions in the next few weeks on his "long-term management options," the Knicks said on Friday.
He has struggled to get on the floor since the Knicks took him with the No. 6 pick in the NBA draft. He injured the back in his first summer league game and didn't appear in any preseason games.
Gallinari briefly appeared in the first two regular-season contests before the pain flared up again.
