--Al Harrington teamed up with his pal, Stephen Jackson of the Golden State Warriors, to start "Protege," an affordable sneaker and apparel line sold exclusively at K-Mart. Harrington, who grew up in Orange, New Jersey, said he wanted to provide quality, yet affordable, gear for families who couldn't afford the major brand names. Harrington wears his product on the court and proudly says it compares to anything with stripes and swooshes. The venture is very similar to what former Knicks guard Stephon Marbury did with his Starbury brand, only Harrington's line is available in a major store chain. Marbury signed an exclusive deal with Steve & Barry's, which filed for bankruptcy last year. Marbury eventually won the right to move his line to Amazon.com, but it is still not available in stores. Harrington has one of several expiring contracts on the Knick roster and he is determined to re-sign next summer. He also promoted the idea of the Knicks adding Jackson, who caught the Warriors off-guard when he announced he was seeking a trade and listed the Knicks among his preferred destinations. It is not believed the Knicks have any interest in Jackson, who signed a three-year extension last fall. QUOTE TO NOTE: "We need to shake up the shoe industry, because the big shoemakers don't care about the poor." -- F Al Harrington, in an interview with CBSSports.com.
