--Former Knick Quentin Richardson endured four trades this offseason, from New York to Memphis to the Los Angeles Clippers to Minnesota and finally to Miami. The moves were more about the value of his expiring contract than his abilities, which might have been a humbling reality for the nine-year veteran. But Richardson said he recalled something Michael Jordan told him and Darius Miles when the two were first-round picks of the Clippers in 2000. "He told us, 'You don't play for the Clippers, you play for the NBA. Your job is to stick in the NBA as long as you can,'" Richardson said. "That's always the approach I took." When he finally landed with the Heat, coach Erik Spoelstra told him he was slated as a depth player, not in the rotation. Richardson, who is in a contract year, then cut 25 pounds off his body weight and came to camp at 225 pounds, which was his college weight. He started on opening night against the Knicks.
--G Dwayne Wade was first up among the 2010 free agency candidates to face the New York media this season. At first, he wasn't interested in playing along when he twice muttered, "I really don't think about it" in response to questions.
Then when he was asked how he plans to handle these constant inquiries about his impending free agency, Wade said, "I answer different every time, depending on how I feel. Like I said, I'm not even thinking about it. Later on, I might give you a different answer."
Then a reporter jokingly said, "You are aware the Knicks have cap room next summer." Wade smiled and said, "I think the whole world is aware of that. Even if you're not a basketball fan, you're aware of that."
QUOTE TO NOTE: "This will be one of the last times I will address this, because it's not important, it's not what we think about and it's not what the team thinks about. You guys can buzz all you want because you have to fill up the airwaves, but it has nothing to do with anything." -- Mike D'Antoni, clearly growing tired of the 2010 talk, which dominates any conversation about the Knicks.
