New York Knicks Notes, Quotes 2009-11-02

New York Knicks Notes, Quotes 2009-11-02--A week ago Al Harrington said he believed he was a starter and told reporters if they agreed with him to write it. But now that coach Mike D'Antoni made the official request to the veteran forward to take a reserve role, Harrington said not only would he accept it, he would be "the best bench player."

First impressions showed the move suited him well. Harrington scored a career-high 42 points in 36:28 off the bench.

--There were attempts to sweep Chris Duhon's criticism of the team's lack of focus before Friday's loss to the Bobcats under the rug, but one person who was pleased to hear someone attempt a voice of leadership was team president Donnie Walsh. Duhon addressed his comments as "something that needed to be said" and believed it is never too early to speak up about alarming trends.

Duhon is one of the expiring contracts on the team and is aware that another disastrous season in New York won't bring a desirable payday for any of the free agents.

"We don't want to fall into the same traps we were in last year," he said. "If we can address it early, hopefully we can change it and move on so we can get off to a better start."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's positives and negatives, but I think we need to focus on the negatives to get better. We just have to find a way to play with a sense of urgency. We can't keep giving teams 20-point leads, fighting back and then coming in here feeling good about ourselves. That's not what it's all about." --- Al Harrington.
