DRAFT PICK:
Danilo Gallinari, SF, 6-9, Italy -- The fans weren't happy and he undoubtedly is a project, but the Knicks insist the 19-year-old is the real deal. PLAYER NOTES:
--F Quentin Richardson is making quite an impression on his teammates after spending the summer getting healthy. He was dealing with a series of nagging issues last season, including a cranky back, which resulted in the swingman averaging a mere 8.1 points a game.
--F Danilo Gallinari is back at the MSG Training Center, but he's not running with teammates. A sore back is keeping the recent draft pick on the sidelines. The organization is not concerned with the injury, suffered in summer league, and his agent expects he will be ready for training camp.
--C Eddy Curry spent the summer working out daily at Tim Grover's ATTACK training center in Chicago, and he appears to have dropped a few pounds. In the new Mike D'Antoni system, Curry will be facing the basket more than he is accustomed to doing.
--F Zach Randolph expects to get a phone call from the Knicks' front office regarding his possible relocation, but he still came back to New York early. There were no hot trade rumors two weeks before the start of training camp, but few expect him to last beyond next season.
