PLAYER NEWS: --There wasn't much concern about C Darko Milicic's decision to stay in Europe and arrive two days before training camp opened rather than report early to work out with his new teammates. Milicic, who showed up in great shape, wanted to spend as much time as possible with his wife and their newborn child. --G Nate Robinson may have re-signed, but he won't be in his familiar No. 4 Knicks jersey. Last season he petitioned the league to change to No. 2, which had been his number through high school and college.
--Rookie F Jordan Hill said he is in "way better shape" for training camp than he was in July for the NBA Summer League. Though he was a lottery pick, Hill doesn't have a great deal of pressure to make an immediate impact because there are so many veterans ahead of him in the frontcourt.
DRAFT PICKS:
Jordan Hill, PF, 6-10, Arizona (first round, 8th overall) -- An athletic big with a good perimeter touch. Mike D'Antoni sees similarities to a young Amare Stoudemire.
Toney Douglas, PG, 6-1, Florida State (first round, 29th overall) -- Tough as nails two-way guard who fills a key third-guard role, especially if Nate Robinson is let go.
