DRAFT PICKS:
Jordan Hill, PF, 6-10, Arizona (first round, 8th overall) -- An athletic big with a good perimeter touch. Mike D'Antoni sees similarities to a young Amare Stoudemire. Toney Douglas, PG, 6-1, Florida State (first round, 29th overall) -- Tough as nails two-way guard who fills a key third-guard role, especially if Nate Robinson is let go.
PLAYER NEWS:
--C Eddy Curry has lost almost 50 pounds so far this summer, according to one of his trainers, Jerry Powell. Curry has participated in an offseason regimen -- which included a diet and fitness program -- that was a cooperative effort by the Knicks and Curry's agent, Leon Rose.
--F David Lee has tried to avoid the swirling rumors that come with free agency by keeping as far away from it as possible. He spent the first week of July traveling for the NBA in Indonesia and the Fourth of July weekend partying in the Hamptons.
--G Toney Douglas was the first of the Knicks' 2009 draft picks to sign, as the 29th overall pick was locked up for his rookie scale contract on July 9.
MEDICAL WATCH:
--F Danilo Gallinari (back surgery) continues to improve as he says he is pain-free and is now participating in some very light basketball-related activities (mainly shooting). He is expected to be with the summer league team in Las Vegas later in July, but will not play.
--F Wilson Chandler (bone spurs) has continued his rehabilitation and is expected to be ready for training camp.
